Geologist
Currently initiating a search for a Part-Time Geologist, Graduate Geologist, and/or PhD Geologist with 1-3 years’ experience for our office.  From this location, our Geotechnical and Tunneling team provides engineering and geological services for projects located throughout the United States.  
This junior level position offers an opportunity to join a fast-paced team looking to enhance their geological field team working on subsurface investigations throughout the country as well as office related work, including but not limited to, assisting the Project Geologist with Subsurface Investigation Program preparation, geologic profiles, Geotechnical Data Reports, Geotechnical Baseline Reports, Geotechnical Interpretive Reports. Work may require up to 75 percent of the time spent in the field. 
The selected candidate must be comfortable working in the field, independently or with a team; supervising subcontractors; logging and classifying soil and rock for subsurface investigation programs in addition to working in an office environment, analyzing the geologic field data collected, laboratory data and/or historical data.
Responsibilities of the Role will include:
  • Assist and contribute to technical reports, i.e. geotechnical data reports, geological interpretive reports, geotechnical baseline reports, geologic profiles, technical memorandums; including compiling field and laboratory data.
  • Work in the field and office environment safely and efficiently; fieldwork will take place during all seasons and weather conditions, must be able to adapt to all field conditions, to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assitance and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Participate in a range of field activities; perform geotechnical subsurface investigations, tasks will include but are not limited to soil classification and rock logging; oversight of soil and rock permeability tests, slug tests, hydraulic stress tests, instrumentation installation (i.e. observation wells, vibrating wire piezometers, multi-point extensometers, inclinometers, etc.); and drilling subcontractor and geophysical subcontractor oversight and coordination.
  • Accurately document (i.e. field forms, logs, daily reports, field notes) daily site activities; Strong verbal communication to convey site conditions, activities accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Local and national travel, for short- and long-term assignments
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or engineering geology.
  • Computer skill’s and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office, Bentley gINT, etc.
  • Excellent verbal skills with strong writing and organizational skills, a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within groups.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness.
  • Understanding the importance of health & safety as a top priority.
Desired:
  • Industry standard commercial computer software including RocScience SWedge, Unwedge, ArcGIS, Bentley gINT, DIPS, GIS data presentation and modeling software, etc.
  • Classwork including Structural Geology, Petrology, Hydrogeology, Stratigraphy, Engineering Geology and Geomorphology,
  • Desire to work toward and obtain a New York Professional Geologist Licensure,
  • Expereince with soil logging techniques using the modified Burmister classification system and Q-system rock logging techniques for tunnelling projects, 
  • 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
