Animal Care Technician

Summary

Perform basic animal husbandry techniques following all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the specific work area.

Animal Care and Husbandry Responsibilities
Ensure that high standards of animal welfare are met.
Provide food, water and clean housing to animals according to applicable SOPs.
Perform routine animal health observations.
Monitor temperature and humidity, reporting any issues to supervisor or manager.
Maintain accurate records
Maintain vivarium cleanliness in accordance with applicable SOPs.
Order and maintain accurate supply inventory
Maintain and organize supply areas.

Other Responsibilities

Maintain rodent breeding colonies
Perform dose administrations including IV, PO, SQ, and IM.
Perform blood collections including RO, submandibular, saphenous, tail vein, cardiac puncture.
Perform data collection, euthanasia and tissue collections.
Reserve, select, and accurately pack animals for transfers following established shipping procedures.
Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Dexterity of physical condition to operate all job duties; lift and move objects regularly throughout the shift.
Work in a standing position requiring bending and stretching of arms and legs throughout regular work shift.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Special Considerations

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or BS preferred.
