The Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization at company supports the discovery and optimization of a wide array of novel therapeutic modalities including proteins, peptides, fusions, and conjugates. The Lead Optimization Core group within BioTDR is seeking a hardworking individual to join our diverse, interdisciplinary team as a protein expression scientist. We are looking for a candidate who will contribute to leading the generation of novel recombinant proteins using our ground breaking mammalian and microbial expression platforms, to support our innovative biotherapeutic pipeline. Do you have a strong technical understanding of protein production platforms along with excellent communication and collaborative skills? This role will help to accelerate our next-generation therapeutics in this fast-paced and dynamic environment. We want you on our team! Apply today!
Responsibilities:
  • Expression of recombinant proteins using mammalian cell hosts, primarily CHO and HEK293 cells in both transient and stable fed-batch production systems.
  • Transfection of mammalian cells with plasmid DNA, mRNA and/or protein.
  • Determination of recombinant protein titers and product quality analysis by ProA-HPLC, Octet, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and CE-SDS.
  • Close teamwork and with colleagues in alleviating protein expression bottlenecks.
  • Cell culture technology development and evaluation through experimental DOE design, execution, and analysis of results.
  • Document experimental design and results in electronic laboratory notebooks and generate technical reports and protocols.
  • Communication of experimental findings to team members and presentation of results at cross-site team meetings.
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (with 4 years of scientific laboratory experience) or Master’s Degree (with 2 years of laboratory experience) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related subject area
Additional Preferences:
  • Highly organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in transient recombinant protein production using CHO or HEK293 mammalian expression systems in a shake flask or bioreactor system.
  • Stable cell line generation and mammalian cell bank preparation.
  • Design of expression plasmid constructs.
  • Cell line engineering experience through application of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology.
  • Characterization of purified proteins by SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, ELISA and Western Blot analysis.
  • Technical understanding of fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis.
  • Experience with molecular and experimental design software such as Benchling and JMP.
