Scientist/Sr. Scientist 
 
The Analytical team is responsible for quantitative and qualitative analysis of fermentation samples using a variety of chromatographic, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy techniques, including LCMS, HRAM LCMS, GC/GCMS, HPLC-UV-RID, Ion Chromatography, ultimately helping develop cost-advantaged production of chemicals using microorganisms. The successful candidate will utilize her/his expertise in LCMS and other analytical chemistry techniques, to support and help advance Company strain engineering and bio-processes. Advanced experience in metabolite identification, characterization and quantitation is key for this position. 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following.   • Method development and analysis of small molecules utilizing Thermo QE HR and Sciex QQQ instrumentation
  • Developing LCMS methods and generating metabolomics data, including quantitation of biopathway products andbyproducts
  • Targeted and untargeted analysis, identification and structural characterization known and unknown compounds, using advanced mass spectrometry and software tools, such as Compound Discoverer
  • Experience in sample preparation, automation and high-throughput LCMS analysis is very much preferred
  • LCMS instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Data analysis, interpretation and communication to project and functional teams
  • Leading analytical support and development for specific projects, as assigned
   Qualifications & Experience 
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required in order satisfactorily perform in this role. 
Education 
  • Degree in Analytical chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields. BS, MS and PhD candidates will be considered with minimum 2-5 years of experience in biotechnology industry, preferably in the field of renewable chemicals and energy processes. 
 Experience  
  • Expertise and broad advanced knowledge of chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy and other analytical techniques. Specifically, experimental proficiency and proven records of method development and problem solving utilizing LCMS and HR LCMS, including QQQ and Orbitrap platforms, are required. Focus on small molecule and metabolite analysis. 
  • Proficiency in LCMS instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. 
  • Experience with HTP analytical experimentation, automated liquid handling robotics and sample preparation platforms.
 
  • Familiarity with fermentation based technology and metabolic engineering basics.
  • Advanced computer skills for data processing, familiarization with Analyst, Xcalibur and Chromeleon software platforms.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, written and oral.
  • Great team player.
 Knowledge Requirements 
  • Proficiency in separation based analytical chemistry, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry. 
  • Advanced knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry fundamentals, chemistry, compound characterization and identification, and method development expertise. Experience in setting up HTP methods. Proven records of successful analytical implementations.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of Thermo and Sciex LCMS instruments and software.
  • Proven record of success in new analytical development and implementation
