Economist 
JOB ROLE: 
As a member of our global Insights team with a focus on the European market, you will be responsible for providing market-leading insights into the payments industry. Your analysis will have an impact right away, forming the basis of our work with governments, regulators, press, trade associations, and some of the world’s largest merchants. 
As an Economist your responsibilities cover, but are not limited to, the following:  
  • Conducting market research into developments and key players within the payments industry on a regular basis and reporting back to the Insights team and the wider business
  • Leading European and APAC research ‘pods’ to identify and analyze commercial opportunities for the business and presenting these back to senior stakeholders 
  • Investigating industry competition and the impacts of market intervention on the behavior of supply chain participants
  • Generating market-leading insights and supporting on projects for our top-tier European clients to shape their payments strategies
  • Presenting analysis to regulators, trade associations, large retailers and payments supply chain participants.
  • Creating thought-leadership materials including white papers, blogs and insights reports
  • Providing research and content for articles within CMSPI’s quarterly publication, Insights Magazine.
  • Supporting consultants and analysts with the analysis of client data to assist with research, forecasting, and advisory services
  • Attending key marketing events such as conferences and webinars to stay at the forefront of payments industry developments
REQUIRED: 
  • Educated to undergraduate degree level with a minimum overall 3.3 GPA in an Economics-related discipline with a high level of numeracy skills
  • Some demonstrable business experience (including internships)
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling capabilities with the ability to apply logic, creativity, and problem-solving techniques
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and especially strong skills using Microsoft Excel to analyze data
  • Excellent written skills – ability to write in an insightful, accurate and persuasive manner
  • An appetite to learn, and the ability to present market research insights in an engaging way to influence business decisions
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks at any one time
  • A second language is desirable but not essential 
  • No prior knowledge of payments, or the European market, is required
