Editor, Space & Science
The Job
This Editor will, with the Senior Editor for Science and Wellness and the Editorial Director of Features, craft and execute a bold editorial strategy for Company’s space and science coverage, including breaking news, enterprise, video, social and mobile content. The candidate will have deep digital experience, innovative content ideas and reach new global audiences via social, mobile and desktop. This role includes frequent collaboration with other teams including television colleagues. The Editor in this role will commission, edit, write, produce and program content for our digital platforms.This role includes frequent collaboration with other team members, including television colleagues. The Editor in this role will work in our CMS, commissioning, editing, writing, producing and programming.

The Daily
  • Day-to-day story responsibility and independent assigning and programming decision-making. Scope includes domestic and international coverage, news, enterprise and SEO and evergreen storytelling
  • Help execute an editorial strategy for Company’s space and science coverage that embraces diverse storytelling, Visuals, photography and video to convey powerful narratives
  • Help conceptualize and execute a user-driven strategy that understands the nuances of packaging content for the web, mobile web, social and apps
  • Collaborate and consult with partners across Company, external partnerships and key contributors; establish strong relationships and regular communication with other editorial leaders and programmers
  • Achieve established editorial goals and deadlines and create new benchmarks for journalistic success
  • Partner with Company’s sales team to execute on sponsorships as needed
The Essentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication or related discipline, or science degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in digital news production with a focus on space and science content
  • Global experience preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in breaking news situations, as well as success in developing long-form journalism
  • Strong editorial judgment, news writing and editing skills
  • Skilled at adapting to a changing environment
  • Ability to translate editorial strategy into daily results
  • Organized and effective communicator
  • Ability to work effectively across different teams
