Principal Geophysicist 
About the Role 
The role supports the geosciences programs of the North American Exploration regions. A core member of a team of regionally focused highly specialised experts responsible for identifying, assessing, and recommending new search space opportunities within North America for the commodities of interest for Metals Exploration.  The role with help to support the country exploration teams with guidance and review of their geophysical projects. 
  
The Principal Geophysicist role will:  
  • Be accountable for carrying out high quality data capture, analysis, and interpretation leading to ground capture in order to continually replenish the project pipeline for the hub.
  • Assist in project evaluation, provision of technical guidance, and supports overall pipeline quality and health within the region.
  • Support high standards of work and technical rigour through collaborating with geoscientists in the regional hub, ensuring that the overall plan and deliverables are being met. 
  • Provide technical expertise in the study of the Earth’s physics – specifically collection, analysis and interpretation of geophysical data to provide technical guidance for decision making.
  • Design and execute non-invasive data collection methodologies and interpretations to provide data-driven geophysical guidance for the organisation. 
  • Select target areas and appropriate methodologies for sampling and data collection to build ore body knowledge that enables value decisions for BHP. 
  • Perform geophysical modelling based on integrated datasets to analyse and interpret target areas and generate valuable orebody knowledge. 
About the Role Cont. 
  • Develop, implement and monitor sampling-analysis protocols & QA/QC programs to quantify the quality, risks and compliance of geophysical data. 
  • Plan and track the delivery of geophysical projects to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes. 
  • Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Provide timely, accurate, comprehensive, and credible technical reports and motivation documents for core Generative programs within North America to assist and support high-quality decision-making in the team.
  • Apply a scientific methodology to investigate various hypotheses or questions and draw inferences on possible solutions.   
About You  
  • Degree in Geosciences or Geophysics from a reputable university
  • Solid understanding of effective data management and use, with an emphasis on high quality inputs and outputs to Augmented Intelligence environments. 
  • Participates in enhanced Machine Learning principles as applied to regional prospectivity mapping and area selection.
  • English and Spanish proficiency desired
  • Prioritises work effort and resources accordingly. 
  • Contribute to positive, open, and trusting relationships within the geoscience community across Metals Exploration.
