RAD Chemist (Renewables)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The chemist will support petroleum and renewable fuel initiatives, champion method development, manage customer requests, and be engaged in industry support activities.  The position is primarily M-F days but may require additional support or travel during off hours.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts analytical method development/optimization and troubleshoots equipment
  • Acts as an analytical resource to control laboratories and renewables support team
  • Oversees testing requests and subsequent data evaluation
  • Interprets data significance and provides guidance
  • Understands the chemistry of renewable feedstock production (lipids), pre-treatment, and refining
  • Understands logistics of feedstock and product movement/storage, compatibility and stability
  • Applies knowledge to design studies and find technically sound solutions to meet customer needs
  • Organizes and trends data, develops correlations
  • Prepares accurate calibration and verification materials
  • Represents MPC interests in industry workgroups
  • Follows all safety and quality control guidelines
  • Writes technical and business reports, SOPs, and lesson plans
  • Provides timely feedback and meets project deadlines
  • Collaborates with internal and external customers/SMEs, as needed
  • Demonstrates integrity in all areas of work
  • Stays abreast of evolving green energy technologies 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry with 5 years of related experience, with strong analytical and organic chemistry background.  Advanced degrees will also be considered.
  • Experienced with soybean oil, corn oil, tallow and/or other renewable feedstock testing; experience with other green energy testing is a bonus
  • Experienced with handling and testing of petroleum products (LPG, hydrogen, natural gas, distillate) and familiar with related product specifications
  • Adept with relevant AOCS and ASTM test methods
  • Proficient in analytical technologies such ICP-OES, XRF, titration, and gas chromatography; mechanically inclined
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Travel Expected: Up to 20%
