Senior Scientist, Analytical Discovery
MAIN FUNCTION:The Senior Scientist position requires a mid-level scientist with working knowledge of analytical instrumentation focusing on the analysis of volatiles associated with flavor research. This position encompasses sample preparation, analysis of samples with GC/MS, method development and the organization and reporting of results.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: 
  • B.S. or higher degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related field. Master’s or doctorate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience for B.S. & M.S., 1-2 years industry experience for Ph.D.;  Experience in the food or flavor industry is a bonus
  • Hands-on experience with GC-MS is required;  Instrumentation troubleshooting skills required
  • Attention to detail and an ability to work consistently and accurately
  • Demonstrated ability to design and perform experiments
  • Excellent personal skills to collaborate with multicultural and multi-disciplined global teams is required
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate both underlying science and practical application of technologies
  • Coursework in statistics/chemometrics desired 
DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED: 
  • Will work closely with Manager and team member in experimental design and execution of projects related to flavor research
  • Participate in sensory evaluation of flavors and/or flavor compounds, as well as olfactory evaluation using GCO
  • Perform SAFE extractions or other sensory guided fractionations aimed at creating links between sensory and analytical data
  • Extract, collect, process and analyze data on volatile compounds
  • Deliver clear, compelling and effective technical presentations to colleagues and manager
  • Collaborate with flavorists, analytical scientists, developers and sensory scientists is required.
  • The position may require some travel.
