Job Description
We are looking for a Sr. Application Scientist (Food Antimicrobials) who is willing and able to take on challenging and innovative projects involving antioxidants in food applications!
The ideal candidate would be responsible for designing and carrying out application projects/experiments utilizing company’s extensive line of food protection solutions in a variety of food application areas including; meat, meat alternatives, pet food, culinary, bars, bakery, dairy, etc. In this role, you would be working closely with a wide variety of internal/external partners/customers to help minimize food shelf-life and food safety risks with our wide range of antimicrobial products. The right individual would be able to effectively manage both internal and external projects from experimental design to completion; assist in troubleshooting and educating internal and external customers on how to apply our products; leverage professional skills to collaborate with sales, business management, R&D, and other internal partners to help drive the overall growth of our antimicrobial business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for someone to design, lead, and execute food antimicrobial/microbiological studies in a laboratory setting, including sourcing required products, reagents, and materials. The candidate must be adept in analyzing analytical/microbial data, from both shelf-life and challenge studies (pathogen and spoilage) and be able to clearly communicate results both internally and externally.  Maintenance of appropriate documentation for experiments through the electronic laboratory notebook system and the active use of all computer systems will be required.  Assist customers and sales by participating in in-house and/or technical customer visits and answering technical questions as needed. Presenting in workshops, forums, and tradeshows may be required, so excellent communication skills are a must.
1.    This individual would be well versed in the principles of microbial food spoilage and pathogen risks.
2.    A strong working knowledge of microbial identification (especially lactic acid bacteria, yeast and molds), the ability to troubleshoot spoilage issues, capable of clearly outlining and communicating study microbial challenge study designs, have a working knowledge of both traditional antimicrobials (e.g. benzoates, sorbates, etc) and cleaner label antimicrobial products.
3.    The ability to develop new micro methodology to support a rapidly growing/evolving business. 
4.    The right candidate would have the ability/knowledge to aid in the development of new antimicrobial solutions. Some experience with patents or the patent process would be a plus.
5.    Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the entirety of the organization.
6.    Ability to education a wide variety of audiences both internally and externally.
7.    A strong desire to help develop more junior colleagues and aid in their overall development.
8.    Strong technical writing ability.
9.    A willingness to be coachable is a must.
WORKING CONDITIONS 
This position may require routine heavy lifting up to 40 lbs. and working with hazardous materials. 30-50% travel will be required.
Job Requirements
To successfully perform the requirements of this position, the incumbent must possess a minimum of 10 years’ experience in food microbiology or have an MS or PhD with 3-5 years or relevant industry experience. The ability to work independently while participating in a team environment is an integral part of this position and excellent communication and collaboration skills are a must.
